FORT JONES, Siskiyou County — Residents questioning a municipal water bill or dealing with a payment problem can review the Town of Fort Jones’ public water-and-sewer guidance before a deadline passes.
The town’s Water and Sewer Commission page provides information on billing appeals, extensions, reconnection costs and customer protections. It also publishes the 2025 water-rate schedule, although customers should verify whether a more recent adopted rate schedule applies to their current bill.
Disputing a water bill
The town directs customers who believe a bill is incorrect to contact the Town Clerk before the bill’s due date. The clerk is responsible for investigating the issue under the town’s stated appeal process. Keeping a copy of a bill, meter reading and written correspondence can help residents describe the problem clearly.
What about payment extensions?
According to the town’s page, qualifying customers may request an extension by signing a statement specifying when payment will be made. The policy references deferral until the 25th of the following month. Residents should ask staff about current conditions before assuming an extension is automatic.
The town also publishes procedures concerning restoration of service and describes protections for tenants when a landlord is the water account holder. The exact charges and protections depend on the applicable policy and an individual customer’s circumstances.
For information, the town lists 530-468-2281 and its office at 11960 East Street.
